'Judicial Guardianship Evaluation Toolkit' explored in webinar

The National Center for State Courts will present the webinar on “Judicial Guardianship Evaluation Toolkit – A New Tool for Judges” on Tuesday, June 21, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Judges who preside over guardianship cases are required to make determinations of capacity and to decide whether a guardianship is necessary to protect individuals who are unable to make decisions on their own behalf. Developed for judges by judges in 22 states, the new Guardianship Evaluation Toolkit is a two-page fillable and printable PDF that contains a checklist of relevant factors designed to aid judges in integrating information from multiple sources. The tool also helps judges weigh potential risk factors for abuse in guardianships.

Presenting at the webinar will be:

• Bonnie Olsen, clinical psychologist, Department of Family Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at University of Southern California

• Circuit Court Judge Susie Norby, Clackamas County, Ore.

• Moderator Diane Robinson, senior court research associate and Center for Elders and the Courts, NCSC
