Man charged with false report or threat of terrorism against high school

On Tuesday, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, authorized two charges relating to a threat against New Haven High School.

The former student was arraigned at 1 p.m. in the 42-2 District Court Tuesday.  He has been charged with false report or threat of terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime.  Both charges are 20-year felonies.

At the request of Assistant Prosecutor Steve Fox, his bond was set at $150,000 cash or surety, with no 10% provision.  He will be held until or unless he posts the bond set by Magistrate Judge Joseph Plawecki. If the defendant posts bond, he is required to obtain a risk assessment prior to release, wear an electronic GPS tether, have no contact with New Haven schools, not use any computer or
technological device and not use the internet or access social media. Additionally, the defendant is not permitted to use or possess any weapons and or any alcohol or drugs unless prescribed. The defendant must take all psychotropic and mental health medications as prescribed.

Since the shooting at Oxford High School in November 2021, threats against schools in southeast Michigan have increased.

Lucido is continuing his pledge to take a “zero tolerance” approach and is committed to prosecuting each one of these threats.

His message is clear “These threats will be taken seriously and there will not be leniency.”
