High school students from across the county gathered recently at the Macomb County Courthouse to participate in the Michigan Center for Civic Education’s Regional Mock Trial competition. The Macomb County Bar Foundation hosted the event, in which students from 16 high schools competed for the chance to advance to the State Championship. Among those enjoying  the competition were (left to right) Linda Start, executive director of Michigan Center for Civic Education; 37th District Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh; William Moore, president of the Macomb County Bar Foundation; and Macomb County Probate Court Judge Carl Marlinga. All courtrooms on the third and fourth floors were used for the competition and all mock trial judges were elected Macomb County judges who had volunteered for the event.
