Commissioner joins group of officials at Taubman Fellows event

On Monday, July 11, Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson will walk the halls of Harvard University, as a member of a select group of elected officials participating in the prestigious Taubman Fellows program. She will join senior executives in state and local government from across the nation. The Taubman Company's Fellowship for Executive Excellence program will give Gershenson the opportunity to learn from the leading representatives in management and public sector leadership. Since being elected to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners in 2004, Gershenson has been instrumental in creating many programs. Her initiatives include the formation of the Women's Advisory Commission for Oakland County, supporting the micro loan program to help entrepreneurs and small business grow and stay in Michigan, strengthening road funding for communities, increasing and making services available to area veterans' families as well as supporting the Healthy Oakland Partnership initiatives. She continues to seek solutions for sharing essential services among communities within Oakland County. Gershenson is the first female commissioner from Oakland County's Board to be selected as a Taubman Fellow and is one of only a two former Oakland County commissioners to be selected for this distinguished honor. "Marcia Gershenson is a dedicated commissioner who continues to work in the best interest of Oakland County and her constituents. I am pleased about her selection," stated Oakland County Board Chairman Michael J. Gingell. "I am really excited about this opportunity and I look forward to bringing new strategies back to Oakland County," stated Gershenson. Gershenson represents the 17th District which consists of the communities of West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Township, Beverly Hills, Franklin, Birmingham, Bingham Farms and Southfield Township.
