Michigan college students encouraged to enter contest
LANSING (AP) -- Officials are encouraging undergraduate students attending Michigan colleges, universities and community colleges to enter a contest that asks them to detail how they'd solve some of the state's problems.
The goal of the competition is to engage students and get them thinking about public policy.
The contest is run through the Students Reinventing Michigan Corporation. This year's topic is "how the Legislature can improve the state's infrastructure with public support in these challenging times."
Students must register and submit their proposals online. The deadline is Nov. 15.
The awards will be announced Jan. 15.
The grand prize winner will be awarded $10,000, second place gets $5,000 and 10 third-place winners will receive $500.
The competition will be judged by a panel of government officials.
