Sept. preliminary exam set in father's slaying
TROY (AP) -- A 22-year-old man accused of killing his father in the basement of their suburban Detroit home and then dumping the body in a cornfield faces a Sept. 24 hearing to decide if he should go on trial for murder.
Oakland County 52-4 District Court Judge William Bolle scheduled the preliminary examination at court appearance Monday for Patrick Mikes Jr.
The judge also scheduled a hearing Sept. 5 for defense motions in the case.
Prosecutors say the son killed 55-year-old Patrick Mikes Sr. with multiple blows to the head. Hey say he then dropped the body in Genesee County's Montrose Township.
The son reported his father missing, saying he left their Troy home on his bike July 27.
Patrick Mikes Jr. is charged with an open count of murder. He's pleaded not guilty.
