Panel to speak on Syria, chemical weapons

Experts on international law, Middle East politics and human rights will discuss the civil war in Syria, the use of chemical weapons and the question of armed intervention on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Wayne State University. The panel discussion, "The Syrian Crisis: Political and Legal Perspectives," will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at the university's Law School, 471 W. Palmer St. The event is free and open to the public. Parking will be available for $6.50 in Structure One across West Palmer Street from the Law School. The panel will include university experts: Gregory H. Fox, professor of law and director of the Law School's Program for International Legal Studies; Nadejda Marinova, assistant professor of political science who has conducted field research in Syria for her research on Middle East politics; Frederic Pearson, professor of political science and director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at WSU; and Brad R. Roth, professor of political science and law and an expert on international human rights. Roth will moderate the discussion. The panel is part of the university's special events during International Education Week (Nov. 11 to 15), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education. The goal of the specially designated week is to promote international activities on American campuses. The panel is presented by the WSU Department of Political Science and the Law School.
