State Legislature has light summer calendar

LANSING (AP) - Michigan lawmakers won't be in Lansing much between now and August's primary election. The state Senate on Monday released a schedule showing two planned session days after this week - one in mid-July and one in mid-August. The House has scheduled four session days in the next two months. Legislators plan to finalize the next state budget and give final approval to other bills this week, while passage of a major road-funding plan appears in doubt. Many lawmakers are running for re-election this year. The Legislature will return to a full-time schedule in September before taking off all but one day in the four weeks before November's general election. Legislators for now will meet for 12 days in the "lame-duck" period after the November election before year's end. Published: Wed, Jun 11, 2014
