Re-routing of proposed gas pipeline a victory for Oakland County

Oakland County Commissioners Michael Spisz and Bob Hoffman presented a resolution in support of rerouting the ET Rover Gas Pipeline in conjunction with similar resolutions presented by local levels of government on August 20. A coalition of local government joined with Jeff Axt of Protect Our Land and Rights (POLAR) to raise objections with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on this proposed pipeline. This 3.25 billion cubic foot pipeline containing natural gas would have transported daily gas from the Marcellus and Utica Shale production areas to other Midwestern states in various markets throughout our nation and Canada. A new map recently released by ET Rover indicates that they have rerouted the pipeline almost entirely out of Oakland County. "While this is a win for those landowners affected, Mr. Axt, area local governments, and Oakland County, it is imperative that people remain vigilant on this issue," stated Spisz who encourages people to contact the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. "This map could change again and we must protect our landowners and natural resources," he stated. "The original plan called for a route through northern Oakland County. The route would have affected densely populated private property and protected woodland and sensitive waterways."
