Man whose son brought explosive to school pleads guilty

NEWAYGO, Mich. (AP) — A man whose home was searched after his son accidentally detonated an explosive at a high school in western Michigan pleaded guilty last Thursday to two weapons-related charges.

In his plea agreement with federal prosecutors, David Saylor said he and his son made improvised explosive devices for two years in Newaygo County.

Saylor's home in Brooks Township was searched in March after his son brought a homemade explosive to Newaygo High School and accidentally detonated it, injuring himself and others.

Saylor pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of a stolen rifle and possession of an unregistered pipe bomb.

He agreed to pay for any losses caused by the school explosion.
