Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced that a jury has convicted Michael Rivard, 56, of Roseville, of ethnic intimidation and assault.
Following a three-day jury trial, a Macomb County jury found Rivard guilty on all counts on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The trial was held before Circuit Court Judge James M. Biernat, Jr. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Coletta prosecuted the case on behalf of the People.
Rivard was convicted of the following offenses:
• Ethnic Intimidation, a two-year felony
• Assault, a 93-day misdemeanor
Rivard was remanded into the custody of the Macomb County Jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Biernat on Tuesday, March 10, at 9:30 a.m.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on December 13, 2024, in Roseville. A 41-year-old Black man was delivering groceries to a customer when Rivard, a neighboring resident, began shouting ethnic slurs and obscenities at him. Rivard also pointed a green laser at the victim’s chest during the encounter.
“There is no excuse—ever—for harassing or threatening anyone because of their ethnicity. Macomb County is a diverse community where everyone is welcome. I commend the jury for fulfilling its duty and delivering justice for the victim,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
