Huddleston announces campaign for Circuit Court

Last week, Nicole Huddleston announced that she is running for Oakland County Sixth Circuit Court Judge. Huddleston was a candidate for 6th Circuit Court kudge in 2024, where she received over 230,000 votes and raised more than $250,000. Now a private attorney, Huddleston previously served as managing director at the Detroit Justice Center.

“In an increasingly chaotic world, I’m more committed than ever to bringing justice to Oakland County residents and restoring faith in one of our key institutions – the courts,” said Huddleston. “I’ve dedicated my life to building stronger families and communities, and I understand judges must lead with both stern accountability, empathy, and respect.”

From serving as a legal aid attorney for people who are low income, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, to overseeing the Detroit Justice Center’s Legal Services Practice, Huddleston has helped remove legal barriers for thousands of underserved Metro Detroiters who otherwise would not have access to the judicial system. She is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, the Wolverine Bar Association, board member for the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, and an ABA-certified mediator in the State of Michigan. In 2021, Huddleston was named to the Michigan Supreme Court’s Justice for All (JFA) Commission. She also serves on the Commission on Fairness and Public Trust in the Michigan Judiciary and Michigan State Planning Body Committee.

“I’m running for Judge because the composition of our judiciary matters. As an attorney who has represented all walks of life and participated in dozens of trials, I know firsthand the importance of a fair, thoughtful, and measured judiciary. The decisions made in the courtroom can impact defendants and our community for a lifetime, and these decisions should be handled with care.

“As judge for Oakland County's Circuit Court, I vow to approach every decision with fairness, human dignity, and justice as my guiding principles,” Huddleston continued.

Huddleston enters the race with support from elected officials and community leaders across Oakland County including State Senator Rosemary Bayer, State Representative Jason Hoskins, Farmington Hills Mayor Theresa Rich, Oakland County Commissioners Yolanda Charles and Linnie Taylor, Southfield City Council President Charles Hicks, and Oakland County 50th District Court Chief Judge Jeremy Bowie.

Huddleston serves on the board of The Youth Connection, a nonprofit that provides mentorship and job-readiness skills for at-risk youth, the advisory board for Center for Employment Opportunities, an organization that seeks to ensure that justice-impacted job seekers have opportunities to achieve socioeconomic mobility, the Tri-Community Coalition, a non-profit which uses education and community action to promote a drug-free lifestyle, and is an Executive Board of Matrix Theater, an organization committed to building community and creating positive change through the arts. Huddleston is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, North/Oakland Macomb Chapter.
