Bloomfield Township takes steps to improve cellular reception

In an effort to address cellular reception, Bloomfield Township hosted cellular providers, their small cell contractors, and DTE at their first-ever small cell open house on Wednesday, February 25. Residents also attended and were treated to a presentation about the small cell application process that needs to be completed by perspective providers. The event also included a “Q&A” portion where residents were able to address concerns about local cell coverage issues.

The open house, organized by the Clerk’s Office, aimed to foster collaboration, provide transparency, and encourage meaningful dialogue between small cell providers and the Township community. In recent months, residents have expressed unease with cell connectivity in specific areas, especially having ample ability to contact emergency services. Additionally, advocating for cellular communications infrastructure is a component of the Bloomfield Township Strategic Plan.

The event was led by Clerk’s Associate Sean Mueller and included representatives from AT&T, Verizon, and DTE. Per Mueller, “We were happy to provide this forum and make sure that residents know we are here to serve their needs. Having local telecommunication representatives made a huge difference, answering every possible technical question.”

Mueller provided a recap of the recent open house at the March 9 Board of Trustees Meeting, highlighting that this is an ongoing process with a potential future open house in the works. Township Clerk Martin Brook thanked Mueller for his work and presentation. “Sean has the big picture covered and the small details too.”
