A new chapter

An investiture ceremony in honor of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Nicole Castka (right) took place October 5 at Grosse Pointe Congregational Church, attracting scores of state, county, and local officials, including Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy and Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kimberly Thomas. Administering the oath of office to Castka was Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Mariam Bazzi (left) who previously served in the Circuit Court seat that Castka now occupies. Castka, who earned her juris doctor from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, is an alumna of Otterbein College. She founded her own law firm in 2003, where she had a criminal law practice before being appointed to the Circuit Court bench by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in May. “I am so deeply honored and grateful for the trust put forth by Governor Whitmer and her office to give me the opportunity to serve the citizens of Wayne County in a much deeper capacity than I have been able to in my private practice,” Castka said in a press release after the appointment. “I will ensure that all parties appearing before the bench will be treated with dignity and respect and that justice will be upheld.”
