Man convicted in witness slaying before testimony

ANN ARBOR (AP) - A 32-year-old man has been found guilty of killing a 28-year-old scheduled to testify against him in a Detroit freeway shooting case. The Ann Arbor News reports a Washtenaw County jury last Friday convicted Willie Wimberly of first-degree murder and other charges in the death of Brandon Charles. He was killed in January 2013 in Ypsilanti Township. A jury deadlocked in May. Charles was one of two people wounded Jan. 1 of last year following a traffic confrontation on Interstate 94. He had been scheduled to take the stand in the preliminary examination of Wimberly and another man charged in the shooting. A co-defendant was acquitted and another pleaded guilty and is in prison. A fourth defendant waits while a separate jury deliberates. Published: Tue, Nov 18, 2014
