Three local fire departments were called to a house fire in the 100 block of Ebinger Street in the Village of Climax late Monday night.

Climax Township Fire Chief Scott Smith said his department was toned out at 11:59 p.m. Monday, with initial aid coming from Galesburg-Charleston Township and Pavilion Township was called for man power.

The Climax Township Fire Chief said the fire started in the kitchen area and extended into a breeze way and into the attic some. He said there were flames rolling in the kitchen area when the local fire department arrived, however firefighters were able to knock the blaze down quickly when they arrived.

He adds the rest of the house was not damaged, however he labeled the overall damage as moderate.

Smith said the occupant of the house was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. He adds some cats were located in the house, however one or two were unaccounted for but it is hopeful they got scared and will be located later.

Smith said the department left the scene at approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.
