After purchasing a weather warning siren earlier and discussing three location options, the Climax Village Council will seek permission from the Climax Township Board to place the weather warning siren at the Climax Township Fire Station.
Public safety, fire, law enforcement, disaster training chairman Nick Ludwig provided the council three options to consider. Besides the Climax Township Fire Station, the other two options considered was at the pump house near the water tower and at the Village Hall.
He recommended the east side of the Township Fire Station. Ludwig adds if the Township Board does not offer permission to place the warning siren at the fire station the council will place the siren near the water tower.
Ludwig felt the fire station would be an ideal location because it is centrally located in the village and the Township Fire Department would remotely test the warning siren once a month.
Ludwig said the warning siren could be installed yet this year.
The council approved the purchase of the used weather warning siren for $18,100 from West Shore Services October 1, with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds used for the purchase.
Council Reviews Proposal to Help Flooding Issues
The council will review a second proposal in the amount of $7,500 from Prein & Newhof Engineering on correcting a drainage issue at West Maple and Lovell Street that may be causing flooding issues following heavy rain. The engineer company felt lowering the pond bottom up to four feet at the existing storm water runoff area near the village park could help
If the village performed some infrastructure work, the village would save $1,150 for a total cost of $6,350.
