Local doctor pleads guilty to health care fraud

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit-area doctor has pleaded guilty for his role in what federal authorities say is a $19 million health care fraud scheme. Fifty-nine-year-old Rajesh Doshi of Bloomfield Hills pleaded guilty last Friday in U.S. District Court for health care fraud and conspiracy. His sentencing is set for March 3. Authorities say Doshi admitted he conspired with others to commit fraud by referring Medicare beneficiaries for home health care that wasn't medically necessary. He then submitted false claims to Medicare for reimbursement. Doshi submitted the claims through his Southfield-based Home Physicians Services. Investigators say he hid his ownership because of previous state court convictions. The U.S. Justice Department says three other physicians and one assistant have already pleaded guilty for their involvement. Published: Tue, Nov 18, 2014
